And Lastly...

I have my (Current) Favorite Songs list. I say current because it is almost unfair to leave it out due to the fact that my favorite songs change weekly.

1. Leavin' by Jesse McCartney. My love for this song is almost embarrassing. It is my ring tone. Every time it comes on the radio or my iPod I blast it and sing along, and I don't even like singing. And I could honestly listen to it on a loop. I know this because I am right now. Just the way the song sounds is so perfect and breezy for summer and it almost is reminiscent of like 90's boy bandish pop, but way better. Jesse McCartney only had one other popular song, Beautiful Soul, which was also catchy. Did I mention that Jesse is also very cute. God, I love this song.

2. Our Song by Taylor Swift. Country, but so catchy and cute. The words and the way she sings it really make the song. The whole story of it too, how I wish that was me in that song! =)

3. One Week by Barenaked Ladies. Really great, breezy, summery song too. The lyrics are really fast but if you listen closely they're cute and truthful at the same time.

4. Take a Chance on Me by ABBA. I doubt this will stay my favorite song, but for right now I love it!

5. All I Wanna Do by Sugarland. Country. But the important thing about this song is to go watch the music video. It's these two countries singers in what looks like Hawaii singing this song about love in what could be the most perfect scenery. I want to go wherever they are just because of the song, which by the way is catchy and is certainly a song that could stuck in your head!

Last of all, I eagerly invite all of you to contribute any of your songs, whether they be all time favorites or ones you've recently happened upon or just like for the summer or the moment.

My list, some modern, some old school, and some songs to get in the mood to:

1. Anything by JoJo. Before I knew and saw who sang this song I honestly thought it was a seasoned singer like Alicia Keys or something. When I found out who JoJo was my mouth flew open. This little girl is so soulful. I just love any song that professes your undying love for your man especially one like this song. "Baby,baby,baby/You the way I want to roll"
2.Gold Digger by Kanye West. Ok, so its not pc. "Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger/but she ain't messin' with no broke N!&&#@"
3. You Give Me Something by James Morrison. Beautiful song. Puts you in a good mood.
4. Breathe Me by Sia. This chic from Australia can sing.
5. All She Ever Wanted by Mariah Carey. I usually don't listen to Mariah Carey songs but even I have to admit she has a pair of lungs on her and this song is romantic. When I first heard it I thought it belonged in a Disney film.
6. Ain't No Other Man by Christina Aguilera? I think. Soulful and another song that professes your undying love and loyalty to your man.
7. Maneater by Nelly Furtado. Great song. I am so glad Nelly made a comeback. You go girl!
8. Glamorous by Fergie. I like her. She came out of the hood' of Hacienda Heights and made it and now she is G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S.
9. Lady Marmalade (both the Moulin Rouge version and Patti LaBelle version). "Hey sista soul sista soul sista".
10. I Will Love You by Fisher. This one hit wonder is not your usual one hit wonder. This woman has a talent that is unbelievable and this song is so sad yet beautiful.
11. Lets Get It On (my present ringtone) by Marvin Gaye. I credit my dad with exposing me to motown music.
12. My Everything by Barry White. My biggest regret in my life is not ever seeing this man in concert before he passed away. My bad. Your father says he saw him at LAX a long time ago. I would of burst into tears if I ever found myself in his presence.
13. Can't Get Enough Of Your Love by Barry White. He is just wonderful, talented, and has a soulful voice no one has ever duplicated.
14. Breathe Easy by Blue. This little know british boy band used to be big in the late 1990's/early 2000's. I am not into boy bands and never have been. Yes, this is the exception because let me clarify they are not your typical boy band like New Kids On The Block or Back Street Boys. You would not believe the soulfulness (is that even a word?) that comes out of these young men. They are like a grown up version of a boy band and I can't believe they didn't make it big in America.
15. Close To You, Rainy Days & Mondays, We've Only Just Begun, Yesterday Once More, all by The Carpenters but I like to credit Karen Carpenter because she is the one singing. If you ever want to see me get teary eyed just play one of her songs. This little girl from Downey, Ca. was given a gift from God with her voice. Loooove her!!!!
16. Hot Stuff and Last Dance by Donna Summer. Donna Summer is my girl! She is just unbelievably talented. I often sing in my car to my Donna Summer greatest hits cd on my way to work and I don't care if people look at me strange.
" I need you/by me/beside me/to guide me/ to hold me/ to scold me/ because when I'm bad/ I'm so so bad".
17. Separate Ways, Open Arms, and Faithfully by Journey. There were two bands in my junior high school that were just it! Journey was one and the second band was Van Halen. Yes, they are borderline cheesy but they are the ultimate songs of my adolescence. (Think image of me lighting a cigarette lighter and holding it up, arm in air)
18. Dust In The Wind by Kansas. I don't know what gets me about this song. It is beautifully written. I love listening to it again and again.
19. Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites The Dust, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Fat Bottomed Girls, an Crazy Little Thing Called Love all by Queen. Love them to pieces. I know I was just a kid when they were at their height of success and fame but their music is classic rock. Freddy Mercury passed on way too soon. RIP Freddy.
20.How Deep Is Your Love and More Than A Woman by the BeeGees. I just this late 70's soft disco sound.
21. Dancing Queen by Abba. I got into them after seeing the 1994 film Muriel's Wedding. I hear Meryl Streep is making a movie using this song too.

This is actually a short version of my list. I could go on and on but I will spare you.

First of all, Lola, extremely impressive list. And, Barry White is the man. I had the pleasure of meeting him and getting his autograph at the airport a few years before he passed away. I have all of his greatest hits on my IPOD. Of the pop Blondes that all came out around the same time (Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Hoku, Mandy Moore, etc.) Christina Aguilera is by far the best singer/performer. She has the vocal range and soul that the others just dream about. As I said before, the rest of your list is excellent. Ally, although we don't have a lot of the same musical tastes, your list is also very good. Now on to my list, which, for the most part, will never change. Here are my top ten in no particular order:
1. Europa by Santana. Carlos' magical guitar work on this song makes you believe that the guitar is the vocalist and no other is needed.
2. Summerwind by Frank Sinatra. This song was introduced to me by Paul Heisinger. It is a classic sung by arguably the greatest singer of our time.
3. Can't Get Enough by Bad Company. Although Sinatra is considered the best overall singer, many consider Paul Rodgers the best rock singer.
4. King of the Road by Roger Miller. "I'm a man of means by no means, King of the Road." What else do I need to say.
5. Spooky by the Classics IV and/or the Atlanta Rythym Section. I first heard this song at Seaworld. They used it for the seal and otter show. It was love at first hear.
6. Fooled Around and Fell in Love by the Elvin Bishop Band. Mickey Thomas, who went on to sing lead for the Jefferson Starship turns in an amazing vocal performance in this song.
7. If this is It by Huey Lewis and the News. You knew that I had to have at least one Huey song. I could have also chosen "Trouble in Paradise", "It's Alright", or "Workin' for a Livin'".
8. Suddenly by Billy Ocean. I can't make it through this song without tearing up. It's such a beautiful love song.
9. Hey Baby by Ted Nugent. Outstaning bass line at the begining and throughout the song. Ted shows why he's one of the finest guitarists of our era.
10. Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up by Barry White. Once again, I could have included at least three or four of Barry's other songs.
10a. Angel Eyes by the Jeff Healy Band.
10b. Help Somebody by Van Zandt.
My appologies to Desperado by the Eagles, Head First by the Baby's, Walk this Way by Aerosmith, Make me Lose Control by Eric Carmen, all of Michael Jackson's hits, and all the other great songs on my IPOD. Let me add one more list. Top 5 One Hit Wonders.
1. Baby got Back by Sir Mix-a-Lot.
2. Play that Funky Music by Wild Cherry.
3. Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang.
4. Key Largo by Bertie Higgins.
5. The Boys are Back in Town by either The Bus Boys or Thin Lizzy (different songs).

Signed, Possibly your dad

Aunt Lola, I love how in depth your list was and I liked most of your songs. It is obvious that it was more along my tastes than my dad's is. Although, to be fair, a lot of his songs have made it onto my iPod all on their own, so maybe we do share some tastes. I downloaded Anything by JoJo, it's a good song! Also, she's not a bad actress in RV =) "Not my dad", I MISS the original seal and otter show! It used to be tiki-themed. Now it's like some hammering tool show. Not as fun, but it used to be my fave! I also particularly liked your top five one hit wonder list, and ironically most of those are on my iPod or I'm very familiar with them. And Lyndsie said your comments were hilarious, but what else is new? =)

Yea,I too like some of the country/rock songs out there! I think my favorite is "Life is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts. You can hear it in Disney Pixars' Cars. I found out its a cover song from Tom Cochran. Love it!! I also discovered another country song by accident. I actually caught the video and thought it so touching. It almost made me cry. It's a song for Miley Cyrus by her dad called "Ready, Set, Don't Go". I loved the video footage of her as a baby. Your right.........watching the video helps sometimes put the song in perspective.
"Take a Chance on Me"......I like it too! Do you ever watch Malcom in the Middle? There's an episode where the two oldest boys sing and dance along to it (hesitantly) to impress a girl. HILARIOUS! Now when I hear the song I think of them!
I'm in agreeance with Lola and Not Your Dad's Top 10 lists! Good Job! I couldn't agree more! I would love to have seen Donna Summer at her prime compete with Mariah, Beyonce, and Whitney. Summer comes from a time when divas didn't have any technical backup help on stage. They had to sing straight. Thats when singa's were singa's.
I too was never a BIG Mariah Carey fan........until I bought her E=MC2album. OMG! Love it! She's Finally grown and you can hear it in the album. Much deserved success. Mike and I like Nelly Furtado's first album Whoa Nelly! I think I know all the songs by heart now. She wrote and sang her heart out and won 3 grammies for it........which I was very happy about! Then her style and music went complete Hoochie. Now she sounds like everyone else to me. (Sorry Lola) I don't know what happened? I'm hoping she goes back to her roots. Blue? I must check them out!
SINATRA IS THE MAN! Right on Steph! Everytime I hear his songs I wanna snap my fingers, tap my foot, and imagine I'm wearing a hat like his! What a voice! I'm glad artists like Harry Connick Jr. help keep his music and style alive. "Fouled around and Fell in Love" always reminds me of Dad. Growing up I always would see him mouth along to the song. And when ever I hear "Suddenly" by Billy Ocean it reminds me of Stephen and Dodie! That was their dance song at their wedding reception. Sorry Steph........I just have to disagree with Huey Lewis and the News. I don't see it.
And lastly, what about Aretha?! I'm surprised she's not in someone's Top 10. That's ok. I'll put her in mine. :)

Boogs,
You've got to see Huey and the News live. Once you've seen the acapella set in the middle of the concert, you'll be hooked. Huey and each of the band members (the guys who play the instruments, not the back up singers) sing 2-3 songs without an musical accompaniment and it sounds outstanding.
